We have two pairs of Ray Ban 4061 sunglasses at our house. They are supposedly "unisex," but for today's tastes, they are better suited
to women. To give male wearers of 4061s their due, I have seen 40-plus-year-old photos of John Lennon and Keith Richards wearing similar, and rounder, sunglasses frames than these.
Fit of the stems is snug on my (average) head, so I describe the fit as "sporty." You shouldn't need a strap if you wear them aboard a boat, for example. 4061s are not suited to big men, though the fit should be fine for just about any woman.
My wife bought herself a black-framed pair with light green-gray lenses. She scratched them somewhat (too much for me), but she still seems to enjoy them for walks through the neighborhood. I find the green tint soothing. It is not cost-effective to only replace the lenses.
I bought an additional tortoise-framed pair with brown-tinted, polarized lenses at my wife's request for driving.
Lenses are great for driving and are free of visible distortion, as you would expect from Ray-Bans. Cheap copies do not provide this. Reduction of glare is ample, with minimal disruption of color.
The tortoise pair retails at Lenscrafters for $139.99. At another sunglass shop at an outlet mall near me, they are priced at $149.99. I have seen these sell new by online auction as cheaply as $80.00 plus shipping. I bought our tortoise pair for $101.00, plus $10.00 shipping by online auction. This saved me roughly 40% off retail. Tortoise cost about $10.00/pair more than black.
To save as I did, you have to know exactly what you are looking for by color, size and model number. Consistently solid buyer feedback in the thousands will protect against counterfeiting.
